Determining the best Ratchet and Clank game is not an easy task since all the games are perfect in their own way. The Ratchet and Clank franchise boast of over 14 games since its initial release over a decade ago. Although the games were made available to multiple gaming platforms, I’ll concentrate on the original releases. Choose the best Ratchet and Clank game from the games listed below.
-
All 4 One
This game stars the core four characters of the Ratchet and Clank Franchise. The characters are Ratchet, Clank, Nefarious, and Qwark. Although it retained most of the original franchise features like mods and bolts, it focused more on the co-op. The camera angle eliminated split-screen, whereby it followed the characters on their path from a high level. Well, this didn’t augur well with most players because it limited exploration.
-
Full Frontal Assault
Full Frontal Assault has different gameplay compared to the other games in the Franchise. It takes up a tower defense gameplay and combines it with the traditional Ratchet action. The story mode for this game is quite short, and that’s a major downside of this game. Unless you play it in multiplayer mode, you’ll be done with the story in less than a day because it has only five levels.
-
Ratchet & Clank: Quest for Booty
I would be wrong to say that Quest for Booty doesn’t have a good storyline. However, it does have many flaws, and that’s why it ranks so low on this list. First of all, the basic features that Going Commando introduced, most of them are not included in Quest for Booty. This game lacks a Mod system, Challenge Mode, New weapons, and Gold Bolts. I would call it boring because it only allows you to visit the levels only once. The only reason it appears in this list is because of its nice pirate-themed setting, and it introduced the Kinetic Tether for the Wrench.
-
Ratchet: Deadlocked
One thing I like about Deadlocked is the gameplay. The gameplay is great, and it allows for customization using mods. Also, it offers players the option of replayability. This offers them a chance to familiarize with the game. Although it has a limited arsenal of ten weapons, you can use the Mod system to upgrade and improve the stats. The whole game bases on Arena combat and Ranger missions just like in Up Your Arsenal. Lastly, the storyline is quite simple and majors on the villain’s story.

Ratchet & Clank (2016)
This is the latest entry game in the Franchise. It’s a bit confusing at first because it remakes the original game. Although it’s the most recent release, it didn’t live up to the expectations of many players. The storyline is also shallow, and it borrows heavily from Mass Effect 1. You have to watch the movie itself to completely understand the in-depth story. Besides, it has no leveling system and lacks a strafe option for aiming. All things considered, Ratchet and Clank has good gameplay, and the better weapons compared to the games before it.
-
Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando
Going Commando is a revolutionary game that changed the way things were in the entire series. It set the pace for the games that came after it. By introducing the XP system, it revolutionized how weapons functioned in the entire game. Players were now able to upgrade their weapons using XP and advance in the game further. Furthermore, Going Commando earns credit for the introduction of a Mod system that is used up to date. Other great features that Going Commando brought include Battle Arenas, charge boots, armor, and spherical arenas.
-
Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction
Tools of Destruction was the first entry game in the Future Franchise. The game is fun to play, and it follows an incredible storyline. Although it had some bit of technical issues, it beats majority of other games in the Franchise. Its story focuses more on the origins of Ratchet and Clank, but the conclusion might leave you in suspense. The game introduced new weapons such as Combat Devices and the star fights with Aphelion. It introduced a new currency that allowed players to upgrade their weapons. Tools of Destruction is one game with the perfect depth of story and a great plot.
-
Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus
Into the Nexus marked the end of Ratchet games in PS3. Well, we all had very high expectations for this game, but it didn’t live up to many fans expectations. In fact, I believe the story ended prematurely. Also, the campaign is much shorter compared to the previous game. The storyline follows Ratchet and Clank as they go into another adventure in the galaxy. The game is full of Nostalgia, and you constantly have to face Interdimensional creatures here and there. Into the Nexus, is the best Ratchet and Clank game in terms of having great controls and weapons.
-
Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time
This is the most well-rounded game in the entire Franchise. A crack in time answered most of the questions that many players kept asking themselves. It gives players a brief history of Clank’s origin. Moreover, players get to understand why Ratchet was the last Lombax in the galaxy. It has the best storyline and a good ending to it. Even though the voice cast was in line with the story, a few players complained about the camera angle. The gameplay is just okay with Constructo mods allowed and much better than the game before it.

Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal
We all can agree that Going Commando revolutionized the Ratchet & Clank franchise. However, Up Your Arsenal upgraded everything that Going Commando had and made the game even better. For those who’ve played Up Your Arsenal, you can attest to the fact that weapon handling and upgrading became even faster. Furthermore, it introduced new features in this game. New missions were introduced, such as the Mission with Galactic rangers. The storyline is near perfect, and the multiplayer mode makes the game even fun to play. Without a doubt, Up your Arsenal is the best Ratchet and Clank game.
