This is caused by a game engine called Gamebryo, which controls the save-game system. Gamebryo is particularly problematic when it comes to garbage collection, which is the process of cleaning dead objects in an environment. Hence causing the game to crash when it loads a saved game, and it finds a broken reference or object it can’t fix. PS3

To delete Skyrim saves on PS3 follow the simple guide below:

  • Go to XMB
  • Click on the Game tab
  • Select the Saved Data Utility tab
  • Select the game you want to delete the saved data for from the list of games displayed. (In this case select Skyrim)
  • Then tick next to Skyrim’s Save Data
  • Click on Delete and then select OK to affirm your decision.

PS4

On PS4, the Saved Data limit is set at 1GB. You must delete the saved data to free up space once that limit is reached. You’ll often see this message displayed on PS4 once you reach your storage limit: “There’s no enough space in system storage. To continue using the application, you must free up 0 kb more space.”

To delete Skyrim saves on PS4 follow the simple guide below:

  • Go to the PlayStation Dynamic Menu then navigate to Settings.
  • Click on Application Saved Data Management
  • Go to Saved Data in either System Storage, Online Storage, or USB Storage.
  • Click on Delete
  • Select the game you want to delete the saved data for from the list of games displayed. (In this case select Skyrim)
  • Then tick next to Skyrim’s Save Data.
  • Click on Delete and then select OK to affirm your decision.

Make sure you don’t delete the actual saved game files while doing the process above.

XBOX 360

On the Xbox 360, saves are found in the HDD, but sometimes you may find them on your USB if you use one.

To delete Skyrim saves on the Xbox 360 follow the simple guide below:

  • Go to the Xbox Home, then settings, and then click on system.
  • Navigate to Storage
  • Choose the storage device that contains the content that you want to delete. Your storage device may be either of the following devices:
  • Your console’s Hard Drive
  • Cloud Saved Games: The storage space on Xbox live servers. There you’ll see your saved games in the cloud.
  • USB Storage Device: This refers to the USB flash drive plugged into your console.
  • Memory Unit: This refers to the memory unit plugged into your original Xbox 360 console.
  • After selecting your storage device, head down to the Apps and Games section.
  • Select the game you want to delete the saved data for from the list of games displayed. (In this case select Skyrim)
  • Click on Delete and then select OK to affirm your decision.

PC

  • Go to Documents select My Games
  • Select Skyrim then Skyrim Saves
  • Click on Delete

Always make sure to turn off Steam Cloud in the settings before commencing the delete process. This is because Steam Cloud will always want to upload the saves to the internet after each session.
